Gary Betsworth, 53, of Weston, was arrested around midnight on Dec. 18, 2018, after Westport police officers received a report a man that had damaged a vehicle and assaulted another motorist, said Westport Police Lt. Jillian Cabana.
According to police, the victim pulled into a shopping center when Betsworth got out of his vehicle and threw a drink on the victim's vehicle. He then jumped on the hood of the victim's car and damaged the roof with his car keys, she said.
When the victim got out of his car to confront Betsworth, a fight took place during which Betsworth pushed the victim, attempted to punch him and threatened him before entering one of the businesses.
The victim was able to provide the registration plate of the suspect’s vehicle, as he had seen him exit the vehicle upon his arrival. Officers learned the victim and Betsworth were not known to each other, but the two were involved in a road rage type incident on Post Road East prior to the incident in the parking lot.
Officers responded to the business address and spoke to Betsworth. While speaking with Betsworth, he was asked several times by officers to remove his hands from his pockets for their safety, but he refused. When officers attempted to take him into custody, a struggle ensued, Cabana said.
The officers were able to gain control of Betsworth and transport him to headquarters where he was charged with breach of peace capable of injury, interfering with an office, non-assaultive, and criminal mischief.
He was released after posting $1,000 bond.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Betsworth is a producer, artistic director, and managing director, with connections to Gooseberry Productions and Fusion Academy. He also serves as a board member for several nonprofits.
